We have involved ourselves in a range of activities and initiatives throughout the years, some of which are highlighted below.

 

Basis Bay establishes UDM (Uplifting Disenfranchised Minority) Fund


In late 2019, we established this fund as part of our CSR effort with the key objective of strategically supporting disenfranchised minority groups across the Asia Pacific region. The fund encourages regional tech entrepreneurs to develop innovative ideas for business transformation. These are aimed at enabling Industry 4.0 through disenfranchised minority groups.
 

 

Basis Bay sponsors Pink Polo’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month


In October 2018, we were proud to do our part in supporting Pink Polo 2018, an annual charity event benefitting the Breast Cancer Foundation. Proceeds were channelled towards raising awareness of early detection of breast cancer, providing financial aid, support groups and counselling to those in need as well as organising activities for survivors and their families.

Basis Bay funds satellite tracking of elephants


In October 2013, we partnered with WWF-Malaysia (WWFM) to save the endangered Borneo pygmy elephant . Our RM50,000 sponsorship supported the WWFM’s elephant conservation work in Sabah, more specifically the funding of two satellite tracking collars as well as associated hardware and software.

 

According to WWFM executive director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Dionysius Sharma, data obtained from the animals’ movements would support better planning of land use to reduce future human and elephant conflicts in Sabah.

 

In The Star’s article on this development,  we explained the rationale behind the funding. Basis Bay chief executive officer Datuk Praba Thiagarajah said, “We hope that our commitment in this conservation effort will set an example to many other private organisations to step up and contribute to the well-being of our environment. At Basis Bay, we believe in the importance of a balance between the triple bottom line of people, planet, profit. And this latest joint initiative with WWFM exemplifies our commitment towards ‘Sustainability of the Planet.’”
